About

Founder-led, because publishing a first book is personal.

Self Publish Me is a small, family-owned publishing services firm based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. We were built for authors who have finished a manuscript and now face the next set of questions: what needs editing, how a cover gets produced, what an ISBN is, how Amazon KDP works, and what the right sequence looks like.

We are not a traditional publisher or literary agency. Authors retain ownership of their books and receive royalties directly from the publishing platform.

Meet Maurice Johnson

Maurice Johnson, Founder

Maurice is an author, entrepreneur, longtime professional musician, and publishing consultant. Across those roles, he has spent decades helping creative people turn ideas into finished work that reaches an audience.

He also knows that finishing a manuscript is only one part of becoming a published author. The questions that follow — about editing, formatting, covers, ISBNs, and Amazon KDP — can be unfamiliar, and the answers often depend on the specific book.

Self Publish Me was built around that moment.

Maurice created a service that offers personal guidance through the publishing process: one coordinated project, one point of contact, and clear explanations at each step. Authors are kept informed and involved, not expected to become publishing experts.

The goal is simple: help someone who once wondered, “Can I really do this?” reach the point where they can hold their published book in their hands and know that they did.

Our mission

“To remove the barriers between creativity and opportunity.”

First-time authors often have the manuscript. What they need is clarity on what comes next: the right production support, a practical understanding of the decisions ahead, and a path that does not waste time or money. Everything we build is aimed at one of those three.

Our story

Why this company exists.

Modern platforms have made it possible for anyone to publish a book. But editing, formatting, covers, ISBN choices, and setting up your own Amazon KDP account can still feel unfamiliar the first time around.

Self Publish Me gives you a clear, coordinated path through that work: one point of contact, a practical plan, and plain-language explanations at each step.

We are family-owned in Oklahoma City, and we are staying small on purpose. Knowing your book, your goal, and you is what makes this work personal.

Values

Six commitments we can be held to.

These are operational, not decorative — you should be able to check us against them.

The right work, not more work
If something will not meaningfully improve your book, we say so. A smaller, correct plan beats a larger, unnecessary one.
A clear path forward
Publishing involves a lot of decisions. We map the sequence, explain the trade-offs, and keep you moving without expecting you to become an expert first.
Professional presentation
Independent publishing should still look professional. We produce print and digital files to retail-ready standards, so your book sits comfortably beside any other.
Authors keep control
Your rights, your royalties, your creative decisions. We are the production partner, not the owner.
Plain language
Publishing has too much jargon. Explaining clearly is part of the service, not an extra.
One relationship
You are not passed between departments. One point of contact keeps the project coherent from first brief to publication.
Nice family owned small company.
